What is an Outie Vagina?

Outie Vagina

This is not a conversation about bellybuttons, what we’re talking about are netherbits.

But before we take a single step into it, let it be known that all vagina is beautiful, each is unique to its owner, and regardless of how your vagina appears, it is normal. This means whether you have an outie or innie; you have to love your vagina.

Okay, now that we have that sorted, let’s discuss one unique vulvar shape that’s colloquially called the “outie.”

What exactly is an “outie”?

Let’s begin with an anatomy lesson that promises not to waste much of your time. While it is ubiquitous for the terms “vulva” and “vagina” to be used interchangeably, they are different words with no similarities at all.

The word vulva is used in reference to the outer bits of your genitals: that includes the pubic mouth, outer labia, inner labia, the clit, and also the urethra.

The vagina is only a part of the female genitals: that soft muscular canal where your babies come out of and the male sex organ/dildos/tampons/fingers go into.

So this means that the term “outie vagina” is not considered anatomically inaccurate.

And if there was literally an outie vagina, it’ll be a severe medical emergency. Basically, it is any vulva that allows you to see the inner lips without having to spread the outer lips physically with your fingers.

If you are looking for a more anatomically accurate description, it would be an “outie vulva.”

Are there different kinds of outie vaginas?

Vulvas are known to be unique to our DNA, the same way faces and other body part are unique to a person’s DNA, and therefore nature has made it that every single woman has a different looking vulva. This also means that no two outies look the same.

Some people who have outies also have curved horseshoe-shaped outer vagina lips that make the inner remain exposed in the middle.

Some outies have inner labia that are much longer than the outer labia, and may slightly peek out from the outer vagina lips.

Some ladies have an inner labia that dangle down as much as an inch or two lower than their outer labia. Some people with outies have inner labia that are the same exact length as their outer labia.

That’s not all; there can also be some noticeable differences in the length, width, color, symmetry, smell, and hair patterns on the outer part of the lips of folks who have outies that make them appear different.

Is this common?

Yep! It is more common than you’d ever imagine. According to Dr. McDevitt, over 50 percent of women have an outie.

Now that we know about outies, what about the “innies”?

“Innie” is a term used to classify vulvas that come with the outer labia being longer than the inner labia, as well as other parts of the vulvar.

While it has been found that less than 50 percent of people with vulvas have innies, they have also become the type of vulva most commonly featured in adult entertainment.

So if you are one of those who have turned on mainstream porn at least once, the chances are that you have seen an innie!

Just as we have earlier stated that no two outies look exactly alike, no two innies are precisely the same, either. There can be common variations in labia length, width, and color.

Some people who have innies also have small, closed outer lips that hide and hold the inner lips entirely, while other people have outer lips that are a lot longer, dangling down beyond the inner lips and sometimes slips outside of their panties.

Why are we talking about this now?

Put a finger up if you learned about how the number of standard labia shapes and sizes that there are in your sex education class. Chances are you didn’t learn that at all.

Dr. Jones hypothesizes that the lack of education around what “counts” as a normal and healthy vulva is the main issue here.

If it was considered a normal thing for vulva-owners to look at their bits and compare them at a young age in the female locker room the way boys do, then it’ll be common knowledge that there is a wide array of vulvas.

Not only do penises come in a range of shapes and sizes, but vulvas also do too, and that variation is something to be proud of.

What if I don’t like the way my labia look?

If you have a problem with how your labia looks, that’s okay.

Every human has thought about making a part of their body look better one time or another. Luckily, there are a number of things that you can do to boost your love for your labia. One involves looking at that of other people.
